Skate or die?

It's a common sight along the highway: a wind-faded board- "MYSTERY SPOT: THE SPOT THAT TIME FORGOT".
Fuck, I've been sucked in to those tourist traps a few times myself. Psst... They are usually just a stupid canyon and an outhouse and a lonely, sweaty gift shop attendant that wears a hat with a question mark on it. Not real.
Guys, I've found the true place that "time forgot"- the roller rink.

A couple of months ago, I started going back to one of my old favorite places. An old haunt, my sister and I were dropped off at the roller rink in Forest Lawn almost every Saturday (great parenting, mom and dad) from grades five through eight. It was where we met boys from other schools. If you were lucky, you'd get to couples-skate while an R. Kelly sex-ballad blared at an uncomfortable volume around you.

Speaking of which, the music is pretty much perfect, and hasn't really skipped a beat since I stopped going to the rink (okay, maybe a bit more Gaga nowadays). It's the only place in the city where they still throw on Wreckx-n-Effect like it's no big thing, followed by Black Box tracks that you forgot even existed. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy that was spinning tracks when I was a kid (and, in any sort of club setting, if people didn't know any better, his set would go off).

Plus, they have a counter full of prizes that is totally unattended. If I wasn't so afraid of the manager of the rink, I would've probably taken about a million of those candy lipsticks by now. It usually takes me about ten minutes to lace up my skates because I'm too busy glaring at the shiny trinkets, and THE PEOPLE.

Holy hell, the people watching is amaaaaazing. It really takes all kinds of folks to make up a good roller-crowd. Check out this mix-

Michael Boltons:

Old ladies:

People that should probably stay the fuck off of roller skates:

And, of course, Goths!

Also, I forgot that I am the best roller skater ever!
They have slurpees that taste like Coke and Windex!
There are guys with afros and mature asian men skate-dancing everywhere!
It helps me endure my recent crippling workplace stress!

So, I guess that's what I've been up to... How are you guys? Good? Pretty good?
